Don't get us wrong, some of these are things that we like, to one degree or another, but we're very different from our characters. One of the things me & Kris have kind of prided ourselves on is not making these characters incredibly Marty-Stu, or Author-Avatars. They might contain facets of ourselves or people we know or have met, but they're... somewhat unique to themselves as individuals.
Sarah - Otaku, Nerdy stuff & humorous. She's the one most like the reader, or creators, really. In fact, her musical choices would not be understood by 95% of her classmates, or her friends, or her boyfriend...
Peter - Middle of the road. Remember, part of his personality is that he's very much not a geek. He wasn't fully with the in crowd, but he was someone that would have been considered 'cool' if he hadn't been such a loner. He'd be into sports, rock & rap, top 40-ish style, non-committal music. The kind of music where you don't have to take a stand.
Jean - Techno, dance, trance & Eurobeat. But it'd be in languages she understands. Or where the beats overpower lyrics anyway. She's mostly interested in sweating, bumping & grinding on the dance floor. She's also though, mostly in to the popular angles in it. You could sell her on MCR or more importantly, HIM (hey, any euro musician who's dad worked owned porno store in Amsterdam is OK in the WLP book, or at least, his dad is.).
Rebecca.... music to be angry to.
Gus Cramer - Why no one has made any suggestions, I understand. I'm actually afraid to think about what he listens to.
Sally & Walter Stubbe. - 2 wildly divergent choices, likely, given that one of this couple is a dedicated greasemonkey, who's in his 40s (think about what station he'd be tuning into still, what that would mean for his musical taste.) and the other works with children. I'm guessing half of Sally's CD collection may involve sing-a-longs. (Although Sally might be impressed with some of Sarah's musical selections.)
I think a better question to approach might be; What would a PitW soundtrack contain, scene-by-scene?
