Spambot invasion, and countermeasures

Postby Kris@WLP » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:35 pm

There might be some long-idle lurkers who read this only after discovering their accounts have been deleted.

The problem is, over the last couple of weeks, and especially the last couple of days, there have been a flood of spambots that somehow got past the Q&A registry question and began posting spam posts. As part of the countermeasures we're taking, all accounts with zero posts have been deleted.

All of them.

This doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. It just means we've had to nuke some legit accounts in order to purge a raft of spambot accounts.

So, if you just found out your account was deleted, re-register- and then POST SOMETHING.

How ironic. Spam on the anti-spambot thread.

OK, time to nuke this spammer and, I'm sorry to say, also all zero-post registrations again. If you registered and got deleted, re-register and POST.

And by post, I mean NOT SPAM.

What? Can't I post my secret recipes using spam and noodles any more?

I know and can relate to spammers. Go get'em!

Well that is completely reasonable. Unfortunately, I am terrible at posting in forums, so instead I'll just leave this here as my first post to show I am human and active. o/
