Mating Habits of Werewolves

This will, eventually, way down the road, make its way into the comic, but not anytime soon.

Werewolves mate on a semi-closed basis. That, in American werewolf society, means marriages where adultery is expected but discouraged. Not that male would deny female or female male- no, no. Old tradition, now dying away, has the female defer to the wishes of the male in the running of home and pack, but on sexual issues no male commands any female, or any female any male. (Unless "Do me!" is considered a command, that is.)

However, males protect their rights by threatening other males to stay away, and females do likewise with other females. The pack alpha essentially has free rein to have sex with any female, mated or not, of age; the pack alpha's designated mate (and alphas must designate a mate) has similar privileges with any male. Con Nero made use of this privilege now and again (and sired a child by it); Jack and Carla Goodwin have no intention to. (Jack doesn't want to cause unnecessary trouble in the pack, and Carla doesn't care for any of the other available options.)

In practical terms, this system doesn't cause as many fights (and deaths) than might be supposed. Werewolves understand that instinct pushes for sex, the more the better. (Werewolves have the reason-overriding pheromones of wolves and the ready-anytime instincts of humans; this means a LOT of sex goes on at Howls.) To paraphrase a slogan, what happens under the moon stays under the moon.

It should be noted that permanent mating, while not excluding a werewolf from all options, provides a measure of protection from unwanted attention. This is not the case at all with unattached werewolves, like Peter. Unattached werewolves are essentially "fair game" for both unattached weres and mated weres seeking variety.

As the only male in the pack between the ages of edit eight and thirty, and one of only three unattached males (the other two being Con and Gus Cramer), Peter has been under more pressure to "play" than any other werewolf, male or female, in many years. Males tend to have it tougher than females in saying no- there's a cultural bias against males raising a hand to females, and reproductive urges in the male are stronger and more perpetual than females. That, plus the lingering wild-side tradition that the strongest werewolf rules over the weakest, makes it damn hard indeed for Peter to say no.

It is this pressure, especially over the two years prior to the start of the story, that has essentially driven Peter away from werewolves and towards humans, Sarah in particular. It's ironic that, in his ignorance, he's created a werewolf he will not be capable of saying no to.

Sucks to be Peter.

(Sucks to be Peter? Hell, I should only have his problem.)

You always want, what you can't have...

Were you planning this out, or did you decide to do this because I started talking about viginity?

But, dude, that's deep, and stuff. There's gotta be something separating them from regular wolves, so, this is great. So there are only three "free" woofs to "play" with, and all of them related.

And what do you mean, sucks to be Peter? A dude a lot of females would like to "play" with probably wouldn't be thinking it sucks... except for Petey-boy. I guess I wouldn't like it, come to think of it... no, lotsa girls > one girl.

Later.

The basic concept has been part of PitW's background since its inception. A few details were refined in after reading Wikipedia on wolves and other canids.

The problem with all the females in a group wanting you (and there are three unattched MALES, quite a few more unattached females) is, well, that ALL of them want you... whether or not you want them. Jean, Peter's friend-with-benefits, isn't so bad, although she has no serious interest in Peter on a long-term basis. "Butch" Cramer is aggressive, a bit crazy, and the daughter of a REAL nutter, the wolf thought Most Likely to Win a Free Trip on the Marie Celeste. Those two are in his age group and are attractive; on the other end of the spectrum, he has been propositioned by the pack's eldest female, who is a little bit older than -Con Nero-.

In short, if you want to imagine Peter's situation, remember when you were eighteen and a falling leaf could give you an erection... and there are a dozen Roseanne Barrs, all insistent that you have sex with them and unwilling to take no for an answer. You are allowed, if you wish, to add a sexy stepsister who's willing to fool around but nothing more, but only if you also add the Psycho Ex-Who-Never-Was From Hell.

...

If I was Peter, I'd be making sure to stay in the bushes with Jean...

A lot.

Neat intro on something only hinted at in the comic, and making it more than just "everybody has sex all willy nilly."

It's "everybody has sex all willy nilly, but with rules."

Rules?

Keep in mind that Furskin or Smoothskin, we are a rule making species. Makes us think we're Civilised and superior. Yeah.

They are probably some homosexual werewolf but like in the human society, they must be in a very little percentage compare to the heterosexual. Since they a lot less werewolf that human, find an another mate seem almost impossible. I suppose that either they try to blend in the society (peer pressure is a key element here) or change of town looking for a pack who content other homosexual member. A little like in big towns there are gay district, there are maybe one or two pack across the North america where the pack is basicly homosexual. This is probably more or less well-know inside the werewolf society and the homosexuals could simply decide to go live here once they learn of this places.

C'est ma théorie à propos de cela, mais elle me semble assez logique.

S.P.P.

It is just barely possible, though highly unlikely, that the only gay werewolves in the pack might appear at some point. They are not merely gay, they are flamers- even so stereotype as to own the town's leading hair salon. (One's a hairdresser, the other a CPA who also manages the salon's finances.)

They're known as the Poodle Twins. (No, they're not brothers, but they're inseperable.)

...

Does either of them have Token in their name?

(Is rather funny, though...A good punchline would be them complaining about stereotypes, and then mentioning that they run the salon.)

But Peter's Pack...

PostPosted: Tue Mar 21, 2006 9:10 pm
by K-MacK
Yet, Kris has said that Peter's pack is quite small...evidenced by the fact that there are only two other persons of Peter's age in this particular pack. Jean is apparently not all that interested in Peter, other than as a friend, and more as a "Big Sister/Younger Brother" sort of friendship. Of course, she may be playing a game, to see where she is in Peter's universe...and well, she found out. Rebecca isn't interested in Peter as anything other than a "Trophy" or a Play-toy. Accent on "Toy". So, where is Peter gonna go? Old lady What's-her-name? Or to someone his own age?
What's sad, is that unless there's a virtual mob of youngsters in the background, this Wolf-Pack is dying out. Sarah may be a Thrall, but she'll get over it, and be the best D@m WereWolf in the Pack, all twelve feet of her. Personally, I hope for the best for the Pack: I like the story and the Characters are realistic; Fur, Teeth, and all. Maybe Jean will also find "someone", who knows, maybe even Rebecca will develop some manners....that's what's fun about fantasy, anything can, and I suspect, will happen.

is a traditionnal big bad wolf. This suppose that this is a traditionnalist and a conservative. I bet that he wanted have a son who could continue this tradition. Ih he had a another Son, Peter could have enter negliged by his own father and Sally wanted not that. She prefered have only one child so Walt will not act like if Peter doesn't exist or worst act like he was a shame for all the familly.

Ça semble être une théory qui se tient debout.

Though we haven't seen much of the characters of Walter and Sally, methinks from what little I've seen Walt is a bit more bark than he is bite.
