THE BRACKET

Special boards for our own "bracket" of WLP characters!

THE BRACKET

Postby Kris@WLP » Sat Mar 20, 2010 6:39 pm

Here are the four divisions, seeded 1 through 12. Seeds 1-4 in each division will get a bye in the first round- that is, they won't be in a head-to-head poll until the second round. The others will face each other thus: 5-12, 6-11, 7-10, 8-9. The winners in the first round will face the 1-4 seeds, with #1 facing the lowest surviving seed, #4 facing the highest surviving seed. The four winners of the second round will then face each other- the winners of the #1 and #4 seeds' matches, and the winners of the #2 and #3 seeds. The two winners of THAT round, in turn, meet in the division championship.

Once each bracket division has a champion, the Silly and Sexy bracket champions will face off, followed by the Good and Evil bracket champions. The two winners will have a final face-off to determine the champion WLP character!

There will be three days of voting for each round- six rounds in all.

Despite the names, the placement of characters in each category is very arbitrary. Don't read anything into the header, and please don't waste time arguing that X character doesn't belong in Y division!

EDIT: Changed one name to bring in a character that definitely should NOT have been left out. Unfortunately, didn't think of the character until after I'd posted the first round matchups- otherwise the Editor would have gotten bumped. Maybe next year, Fuji-kun.

Round 2 is underway, so now it's time for Round 1 post-game and Round 2 analysis.

Ignoring the PitW v. PitW matchups, here is how each comic did in the first round:

PitW: 3-3
Milkmaid: 1-5
CM: 3-2
Chichi: 3-1
Shiroi: 1-0

The Milkmaid minor characters didn't hold up well at all in the first round. Yes, they can look forward to having their heavy hitters (or should that be a T instead of an H?) coming out of their byes... but, by definition, ALL the lead characters are coming in, including Peter, Sarah, Jean, Butch, CM, and Chichi.

To make things worse for the Milkmaid team, the one character who won in the first round... matches up immediately against ANOTHER Milkmaid character in the second round! This guarantees that the Milkmaid cast will be down another team member, no matter what else happens, when Round 3 comes round.

Anyway, here's what each comic has left in the race:

PETER IS THE WOLF - 13 entries
THE MAGNIFICENT MILKMAID - 7 entries
CHOCOLATE MILKMAID - 6 entries
CHICHI-CHAN - 5 entrants
Other (Shiroi) - 1 entrant

We have two Cinderellas coming out of the first round: Shiroi (a #11 seed) and Prof. Wanda (a #10 seed). Both, of course, are facing very stiff competition in #1 seeds Chocolate Milkmaid and Butch Cramer, respectively. Initial voting does show some support for Shiroi, though, so there might be hope for a non-busty bracket buster!

Round 2 matchups:

PitW v. PitW - 2
PitW v. MM - 3
PitW v. CM - 2
PitW v. Chichi - 3
MM v. MM - 1
MM v. Chichi - 1
CM v. CM - 1
CM v. Chichi - 1
CM v. Shiroi - 1

In addition to CM v. Shiroi, Butch Cramer v. Prof. Wanda, and the C*nt v. JuGGG's, there is one other match-up worth special consideration: Milkmaid v. Carla Goodwin. Although Milkmaid is by far the heavy favorite here, PitW fans who want a mother-daughter Jean v. Carla matchup later on need Carla to pull off the major upset here. As I type this, about two hours into the voting, the numbers show early support to Milkmaid... but can the WILF fans rally and put Carla over the top? (It'd be a stretch...)

And with the first wave of votes in, let's go to the scoreboard!

SILLY BRACKET
#1 Chichi-chan v. #8 Dr. Abe - 6-4 Chichi. Dr. Abe's keeping it close- could we see the fall of a #1 seed? Or will the combination of cute and absurdly busty win through?
#4 Slime Monsters v. #5 Prof. Feetlebaum - 5-4 Slime Monsters. This could go either way...
#2 Peter Stubbe v. #7 WLP-Tan - 8-1 Peter.
#3 Martina / Sweater Puppy v. #6 Cherry Li - 7-2 Sweater Puppy.

SEXY BRACKET
#1 Jean Goodwin v. #9 Sally Stubbe - 9-1 Jean.
#4 Laura Dorman v. #5 Ashley Greeve - 5-4 Ashley. They're neck and... er, neck.
#2 The Magnificent Milkmaid v. #7 Carla Goodwin - 6-3 Milkmaid. Carla's performing better than expected- still well within range of an upset...
#3 Ootla the Jungle Queen v. #6 Android Woman - 7-2 Ootla.

HERO BRACKET
#1 Chocolate Milkmaid v. #11 Shiroi - 8-2 Chocolate Milkmaid. Unless there's some major love for Shiroi down the stretch, this upset isn't happening.
#4 Serafina / the C*nt v. #5 Karen/JuGGG's - Serafina 6-3. The only MM cast survivor of Round One looks like she won't make it past Round 2...
#2 Sarah Hazen v. #9 Walt Stubbe - 9-0 Sarah.
#3 Con Nero v. #7 Moira and Sharon - 7-2 leprechaun girls. Significant upset in the making here...

EVIL BRACKET
#1 Butch Cramer v. #10 Prof. Wanda - 6-4 Cramer. Prof. Wanda still has a chance at an upset- this is MUCH closer than expected.
#4 Dr. Papi v. #5 Chichi's Mom - 4-3 Dr. Papi. Very close race- and fewer votes than any other face-off thus far...
#2 Veiled Threat v. #8 Demoness of Sexual Harassment - 8-1 Veiled Threat.
#3 Prixen v. #6 Gus Cramer - 7-2 Prixen. Was expecting a stronger performance from Gus...

Voting ends about midday Saturday- see you Saturday night or Sunday morning for the wrap-up!

#3 Martina / Sweater Puppy v. #6 Cherry Li - 13-5 Sweater Puppy.

SEXY BRACKET

#4 Laura Dorman v. #5 Ashley Greeve - 9-8 Ashley.
#2 The Magnificent Milkmaid v. #7 Carla Goodwin - 11-7 Milkmaid.
#3 Ootla the Jungle Queen v. #6 Android Woman - 12-6 Ootla.

HERO BRACKET
#1 Chocolate Milkmaid v. #11 Shiroi - 13-5 Chocolate Milkmaid.

#2 Sarah Hazen v. #9 Walt Stubbe - 18-0 Sarah.
#3 Con Nero v. #7 Moira and Sharon - 14-3 leprechaun girls.

EVIL BRACKET
#1 Butch Cramer v. #10 Prof. Wanda - 11-7 Cramer.
#4 Dr. Papi v. #5 Chichi's Mom - 10-4 Dr. Papi.
#2 Veiled Threat v. #8 Demoness of Sexual Harassment - 13-5 Veiled Threat.
#3 Prixen v. #6 Gus Cramer - 13-4 Prixen.

And Round 3 final results:

#1 Chichi-chan v. #4 Slime Monsters- 12-5 Chichi.
#2 Peter Stubbe v. #3 Sweater Puppy- 10-7 Peter.

#1 Jean Goodwin v. #5 Ashley Greeve-14-1 Jean.
#2 Milkmaid v. #3 Ootla - 15-1 Milkmaid.

#1 Chocolate Milkmaid v. #4 the C*nt- 13-5 CM.
#2 Sarah Hazen v. #7 Moira and Sharon- 10-7 Sarah.

#1 Butch Cramer v. #4 Dr. Papi-9-7 Cramer.
#2 Veiled Threat v. #3 Prixen- 14-3 Prixen.

From here we're dropping the bracket division names, since we're down to eight matches!

Teams left: PitW - 4, Milkmaid - 2, CM - 1, Chichi - 1.

Most notably, all four #1 seeds, and three of the #2 seeds, are in our Elite Eight- no Cinderellas or major upsets at the top.

So... on we go!

And, with the first surge of votes in... three our of the four Round Four matches are going to PitW characters.

The only exception:

Prixen 5, Butch Cramer 4

The others:

Sarah Hazen 6, Chocolate Milkmaid 4

Jean Goodwin 6, Milkmaid 3

Peter Stubbe 7, Chichi-chan 2

Round 4 voting ends early Saturday morning- don't miss out on picking our Final Four!

And one of our Round 4 matches has gone into OVERTIME- with a tie-breaking poll running for the next 23 hours or so at deviantArt:

http://redneckgaijin.deviantart.com/jou ... l/1128559/

That's right, the Jean v. Milkmaid battle ended in a 9-9 tie! We'll find out the winner there tomorrow! Whichever of those characters wins the runoff faces Peter Stubbe in the semifinals:

Jean Goodwin 9, Milkmaid 9

Peter Stubbe 11, Chichi-chan 7

Prixen 10, Butch Cramer 8

Sarah Hazen 12, Chocolate Milkmaid 7

So, the other Round 5 matchup will be Prixen v. Sarah Hazen.

BTW, a minor seed note: if Jean loses to Milkmaid in the runoff, all FOUR of the #1 seeds will have lost in the fourth round! Chichi-chan, Butch Cramer, and Chocolate Milkmaid all were seeded #1 by our expert wild-ass guessing, and they all LOST!

Voting begins in the early afternoon tomorrow for the MARCH GLANDNESS Semifinals... see you then!
