Or, we're actually taking a page from the ol' book of cliches. Well. not really cliche, but still *really* old.

All the way back from the '' "" 160 years ago, to the modern "Blade" series, one of the rules have been a pseudo-science explanation of where the monsters come from. It's a while away from sheep's bladders being used to prevent hurricanes though.

Here we actually show the debate amongst a group of science vs. magic in fiction, really. Do you need a tight little explanation for every damned thing that's going on? Or can you suspend your disbeleif, and write it off as what is, therefore, is?

It could also represent an arguement going on all over amongst the were community. They can't openly argue on of the most intrinsic debates that all humans go through, "where do we come from?" in public. Also think of this: It can also represent a factional arguement of the Traditionalist vs Modernist debate amongst lycantrhopes. Dr. Abe is most obviously intot he old ways... and many modern MDs would also skoff his practice of Acupuncture as being bunk.

Toss a bunch of people some tidbit like "It works best when fresh, ..."
and trying to figure out "How" is fun. There's no trouble suspending disbelief, but trying to figure out "How could it work... is fun too.
Werewolves are like Pink Elephants: they exist without the need for support by the universe at large. They simply are. Or aren't, depending on your point of view.
Kris and Bar-1 have created a fun, enjoyable story, that is easy to engage with. Ideas tossed up are fun to think about, and some of them are engaging enough to warrent discussion.
I for one read several Werewolf comic stories. This one is the only one good enough to warrant discussion...the rest are just clever stories, repeats of previous themes.
So, please consider these discussions as a form of Applause. It isn't every story that's worth this much thinking about.

It's explained in the first chapter that werewolves are highly resistant to most toxins, so it's unlikely a werewolf could get a buzz - let alone drunk - off alcohol while transformed. Then again, the laws of narrative causality and universal humor state that no sentient being, however powerful, cannot get drunk if the situation demands it...

That said, if werewolves are indeed immune to the effects of alcohol and other addictive substances, consider this: What would happen if a werewolf got drunk while human and then transformed? Would the effects of the alcohol persist, or would the change wipe the stuff (and the damage it's caused) from his or her body? The latter would suggest that a werewolf could get blind stinking drunk and instantly sober up by shifting into their hybrid form! Hell, they could chug Everclear and snort cocaine all night and wake up the next morning as fresh as a daisy.

Still, I'm guessing werewolves can't escape the long-term physiological or psychological effects of drug abuse; there must be some limit as to what a werewolf's metabolism can handle. Otherwise they'd never stop grinning.
