Religion among lycanthropes is... complicated.

There are a lot of agnostics.

There are a lot of followers of Christ, Mohammed, Vishnu, Buddha, and so on.

A lot of Japanese lycanthropes practice Shinto.

The closest lycanthropes get to a unique religion is a very vague and conflicting set of beliefs which boil down to a vaguely pagan notion of "household gods," where everything has its spirit or god... and that lycanthropes are touched, blessed, cursed, whatever by the god of whatever animal they happen to take their characteristics from.

It's nothing like unified, nor codified, nor standardized- and it's hardly universal.

I just kind of figured that lycanthropes would have a slightly different outlook on the world around them considering the type of creatures they are compared to humans. Most spiritual religions try to vehemently claim that man is NOT an animal. Man is seperate from the animals due to their 'creation' and possessing a 'soul' and other such rhetoric.

On the other hand, lycanthropes would have to be rather severely mentally retarded to not notice their distinctive similarity to a certain type of animal, which by the way is always a predatory species. In addition to the hybrid appearance that they can learn to control at will, they also have an animalistic set of instincts to contend with, many of which are considered 'sinful' by spiritual religions. I'm having a hard time picturing a werewolf bishop.

The considerable strength, agility, regenerative nature and of course predatory instinct of lycanthropes would also help to boost the tendancy towards claiming divinity itself. You just know that there have to be lycanthropes out there that consider themselves gods among the weak humans.

Of course lycanthropes would have a wide variety of religious views just like humans that can vary area to area and time period to time period. However, you have to admit that the lycanthrope versions of these would have distinctive differences from the human versions, even if they wanted to stick to the same names.

NANI?!

Postby Wizard_of_odd » Thu Nov 16, 2006 2:37 am

Holy!

I leave for a few days and we actualy get pretty darn deep with the religious veiws/manafesto of the general lycanthope population

Wow , man I realy am almost at a lack for words...

And a Richelieu refference to boot ? , did I step back into the "norm" of my life or did I just take the poverbial " wrong turn at Albecurque?" (sorry if I Typo'ed that but i'm still a little floored...)

Ok , after taking a breif step back , ( and a good belt of my private reserve...) I must say that this has been well thought out and well worded.

both sides of this little exchange were pretty logical ( hell , even beliveable! :o ) and after taking a little time to settle into the subject matter at hand I must say , that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thought provoking look at Kris' modern fiction . ( Hard to belive that this is basicaly a PrOn at the end of the day after this... )

Hell with this level of depth , we could only wish that Kris would crank out novels as quick as stephen king... :D

Among the many weird things spiritual religions have about them is circumcision. I personally am not circumcised and didn't even realize it was a common thing in the United States until recently. I imagine it wouldn't work too well on lycanthropes, though. They'd have to use a silver razor.

And then there are other things I don't quite understand. Like, how does a religion like Christianity, which is supposed to be based on love and acceptance, give us the Spanish Inquisition? It's hard to tell who the real predator is sometimes, unless Torquemada himself was a werewolf.

Are there any lycanthrope Satanists? (Note: I said Satanist, not devil worshipper. There's a world of difference.) Either way, I would imagine quite a few human Satanists would be begging to be infected with lycanthropy if they knew it for sure existed. I sure would be, hehe.

There are two meanings to the word "Mad". Insanity and Anger. God help us when 'they' have both!

Religion?

Postby K-MacK » Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:47 pm

One of my smarter teachers pointed out that if you'd know a person's religion, study the person: everybody Lives their actual religion, regardless of where they meet, and what they do there.
Doctrinal religion is the backbone and the skeleton, but the actions in their life represents what they really believe.
Perhaps, as Kris had pointed out, the Baasti and Anpuii (Cat were's and Jackal were's) in Egypt actually started believing they were divine, and eventually, the masses decided that statues were better than living gods, and tried to kill 'em all; as outlined in the Omake.
Historically: In Rome there was a cult of the Wolf, the She-wolf that nursed Romulus and Remus (the Luparii) who were believed to be Werewolves. Unfortunately, the word: Lupa, also meant whore....

Furry Cons

Postby K-MacK » Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:28 am

Wizard, if you have any sense of self preservation, you don't go to a FurCon in a pink Gi. Ever. Saddest thing that ever happened to me was at a Furry Con out here where I was working Tech, and I kept being bumped by a large Blue Cat that kept saying Mrrrow into my ear.
I finally got away from the cat, only to see the same cat later, with her upper parts off...My fault, I judged the book by the cover. She was, in a word, hot. Later I learned she wasn't a cat, she was cosplaying one of the Jewel Vixens. sigh.
That's the danger tho',it could be anybody under that zoot...and you'll never know until too late.

truer words...ah I'll get to it later...

Postby Wizard_of_odd » Tue Nov 28, 2006 1:07 am

well I still get a LOT of flak for dating one furry girl in the past...

Thankfuly fur suits wern't her "bag" and hot didn't even begin to describe her...

But things never went past the simple dating thing ,and well here I am alone again...but that seems to be m general luck in life... :?

As for a furry con in a pink gi , well I realy don't count AWA too much , even though it's about half furry and thankfuly the fur suiters there realize that those things get HOT...so they only realy pop on for pictures...

Of course this was the same trip where I almost broke my ankle doing Dan Hibiki's "super taunt" ( a cameraman wanted a "better angle" and colided with me while I was in mid-air... )

As for the "blessed of lupari" well that would make for a pretty good side story , or perhaps a good story of my own creation...Hmm I wonder if I'll ever have the time to hammer out another story?...ah well... :?

(Before you ask I had done work as a mascot a few years back , and in the Louisiana summer heat , you'll pray to just about any god / goddess bestial or otherwise for a nice cold cooler of water... )
