What we have here is a behind-the-scenes shot of the characers waiting for their next episode; their "scripts" as it were. ...or Were'...
This stuff is hilarious! The Sheriff is out of character, as is Peter, as is Sarah...I'm surprised we didn't see Rebecca wandering through the scene asking Peter if he wants to do dinner tonight, usual place, usual time; or Jean In-lining along the sidewalk beside Gus.
Perfect, as a time-stretcher...
And really, Pete's Mom in MILF? That will be adults only....

And, that guy in the vest and tie...his first name wouldn't be Kris, would it?

Well the first part of this chapter will actaully be a bit of intros, and development.. at the very least we'll also have a peek around what I'm at least referring to as "The Lodge" the house that Peter is going to be living in... and probably have to be reconditioning, too....

Hm.. one boy, many girls, oversized house... damn if this isn't Harem Anime...

But the 'code-phrases'... are going to get wierder as the next few pages develop... we're going to meet some of the community's werewolves.... as well as perhaps... a poodle or two....

And the fellow with the nice beard is Stefan Wald, Sally's brother, Peter's uncle.

Peter and Sarah are the only two inhabitants of the house, and the house will be only a minor setting. Most of the action is going to take place in town.

Also, I should point out this is not a Masaki Kawajima anime, in that Peter does not possess fantastic cosmic power of any sort whatever.

Finally, no, I am not Stefan. Stefan has hair.

Hmmm, I think Sally will either grab some large, heavy, blunt object and give Walt a hard shot to the wolf nards for being such a poor father, or else jump him and try for another pup. Probably both now that I think about it.

Been thinkin' about Happygun's worries about teh Wolves rules on their secret: Okay: Secret Passwords and handsigns; they're as old as any marginalized society at risk from the majority, and the Were's have more reason than most to employ them, in that they face not only a shallow population base, but a decided prejudice on the part of the non-Fuzzy/Toothy set. They are seen as dangerous and are generally killed; even the smallest children, upon discovery.
Humanity: DOES NOT PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS, HOARDS TOYS, FIGHTS TO RETAIN THEM.

The same can be said for the Were's "Secret" of their existence, and for the same reason. I have no doubt that if they really did exist, they would have similar protections in place. Would they kill everyone of Smooth Skin who knew? No. I suspect that Killing is the option of last resort, used only if everything else doesn't work, and said Smooth was intent on the Were's destruction. Heck; given similar circumstances any group would, if they wanted to survive.
After all, the Thrift-Shop lady knows, and she's not a Were'. Kris has said there a few Smooth's who do know and are accepted, because the Werewolf community needs them, and they can be trusted. I suspect this is a generational thing, in most cases.
Now as to the Were's getting Out (as in Outed)- That would ruin the story by removing the suspense factor; besides, it's most likely that Peter's Generation is the last generation that will be secret. Their offspring will be moving out into the world as Werewolves in an open society.
That's probably fifty years away. Peter and Sarah and every other wagging tail Were' is now, not fifty years hence.
That would make a good story in itself. And if Kris doesn't write it, one of us probably will
So, relax. It's just a plot device to make an already good story better.
