FWIW, most morgues these days, I expect, treat -all- dead bodies as if they carry HIV.

On that basis, as long as nobody goes out of their way to smear blood on open wounds, it'd be as safe as HIV, in terms of infections.

... the other thing to note is that if you have the local medic on your payroll, as it were, and they're already infected, they can keep everyone else clear. Or so I'd look at it.

Of course, I'd be looking for some other word than "infected", myself. It's ... not quite the right connotations.

Anyway. If the body drops back into "human" mode on death (as has been said), ... how does rigor mortis affect that?

As to living in a human city as a Werewolf; remember, when they aren't all Fuzzy and Toothy, they are just about like everybody else, in that they like their conveniences and easy access thereto.
Plus, by living in a city; even in Genericville-they can "disappear into the noise" of other humans around them. In a small town or out in the Wilderness, their secret would be much harder to keep, since in a small town-everybody knows everybody else's business. In the Wilderness, you can't easily control who sees you- or what form you're in at the time- as easily. Visitors might "see" the odd, big Wolf-paw prints around your house-or even muddy prints inside your house, which would be very hard to explain.
People in cities tend to be both deafened and blinded by the sensory overload that city life creates; providing safety for less-than-perfect Werewolves.
I wonder, though; is there a sort of "Retirement Area" that Werewolves go to as they age, and lose their fine shape-control to senility? Or-do they just head out and disappear?

Actually, the wilderness in general -is- where werewolves go to retire and disappear. The more remote the better; there are still places on every continent but Europe where a person can be the only one around for miles.

(And there might be a few places in Europe where that's true, too. I don't know for certain.)

There's something to be said for city dwellers ignoring much of what goes on around them, but once something is called to their attention, they keep their eye out for it. As Sarah will find out, the city is not a good place for a werewolf short on control to be.

Don't try and pretty it up.

It's a dangerous communicable disease. Peter and whoever was supposed to teach him the rules about lycanthropy should be flogged.

But then I like Sarah and really DON'T like Peter. So I'm probably more likely to brutally flog him than most.

syn·drome

1 : a group of signs and symptoms that occur together and characterize a particular abnormality or condition
2 : a set of concurrent things (as emotions or actions) that usually form an identifiable pattern

dis·ease

1obsolete : trouble
2: a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms : sickness, malady
3: a harmful development (as in a social institution)

Lycanthropy is a disease. It may have beneficial symptoms but there can't be any real argument that it has impaired Sarah's normal functioning.

Actually, by those definitions, syndrome is a good description. You can't really say that being a lycanthrope makes the body operate -worse-. To the contrary- on strictly physical terms lycanthropy is generally beneficial, except for end-of-life issues.

The main downer about lycanthropy isn't the disease/syndrome/condition itself- it's the torch and pitchfork brigade lurking just out of sight...
